At the 2022 working meeting, the focus is on the period from the 1970s onwards, when the life sciences were perceived as the new leading sciences. With the new research fields of genetic engineering and reproductive medicine, conflictual discourses developed around the topic of artificial-technical production and manipulation of life, which had long been located in the present.

Especially the overlapping area of the technologies was lively discussed in science, politics and the public. Some dismissed the combination of genetic and reproductive technologies as purely imaginary, while others already saw the first steps from the readjustment of nature to the breeding of humans.

The working meeting will take place digitally on the Zoom platform. Please register by mail to anna.klassen@uni-jena.de
