Chair for the History and Philosophy of Science
Our research and teaching explore the formation of scientific knowledge in different historical contexts and eras as well as the social impact of the sciences.
Our research draws on methods from various historical disciplines as well as from the cultural and social sciences but also engages with the natural sciences. The history of science at the Ernst-Haeckel-Haus thus aims at promoting an interdisciplinary exchange and dialogue between the humanities and the natural sciences.
Our study programme combines a high level of interdisciplinarity and an international research orientation with the rich local tradition of Jena in the history of science. Its courses in the history of the natural sciences (B.A., M.Sc.) make the Friedrich Schiller University Jena one of the few places in Germany where the history of science is taught as an independent discipline.
